A Rare Night Kayaking Experience in Suffolk
Our Moonlight Kayaking Trip takes place on the beautiful River Orwell estuary in Suffolk, launching before sunset so you can enjoy the changing light from the water.
As the sun drops below the horizon, we paddle into the evening and experience the estuary at its quietest and most atmospheric.
You will paddle past peaceful shoreline, moorings, boats, marinas, wooded banks, beaches, hamlets, and riverside features, with the water and landscape slowly changing under moonlight.
This is a calm, guided, small-group kayaking experience designed for people who want something more memorable than a standard day out.
Why This Trip Is Special
Most people see the Orwell estuary from the shore, from a pub garden, from a boat, or from a bridge. Very few experience it from a kayak at night.
On this trip, you are close to the water, moving quietly, travelling slowly, and seeing the estuary from a completely different perspective.
You may see egrets and grey herons hunting along the shoreline. Seals are sometimes seen resting around the boats and moorings. The river becomes quieter, the light changes, and the whole estuary takes on a different character. It is peaceful, unusual, slightly surreal, and very memorable.
And this is the final time we are offering this guided trip.
Perfect for Beginners and Experienced Paddlers
You do not need advanced kayaking experience to join this trip.
Our stable sit-on-top kayaks, experienced guides, careful route choice, and professional safety systems make this a suitable guided kayaking experience for beginners and mixed-ability paddlers aged 16 years and over.

Customer Review
“Nomad Trips Are Never Ordinary”
J. Beales, 29 June 2019
“Our small group of eight launched from Pin Mill in the late evening on a warm summer evening. Just before sunset and with no other river craft moving, we had this sheltered, tree-lined, and beautiful section of the Orwell to ourselves.
With a gentle, cooling breeze as we reached slack water, we paddled along almost in silence, the only other sound the cry of a nearby oystercatcher. We paused to watch the hazy sunset, perfectly framed by the Orwell Bridge.
Kayaks being able to go places other craft cannot, we were able to explore right up to the water’s edge, seeing areas that few others have ever accessed. Switching on our red head torches in order to be seen in this unfamiliar but enchanting twilight world, we paddled on to Woolverstone Marina before crossing the river and heading back, all talk along the way being of what a wonderfully memorable trip this had been.”

I loved it! I was taken completely out of my comfort zone of rivers & a lake - The scenery was beautiful, the water was smooth as a mirror (I was assured that we were very lucky) & even though it was a Christmas present I think whatever was paid was well worth the money. I did get a little tired paddling back to the marina at the end but I would imagine most do. Book it, if you don't you will regret it.
It was a lovely evening Carol, thank you for joining us.
