Final Full Moon Seal Safari: Night Kayak Adventure in the Walton Backwaters.
This is a one-off event for 2026 & absolutely unique in the United Kingdom!
THE FINAL NIGHT SEAL SAFARI: FULL MOON KAYAKING AMONGST WILD SEALS.
A Once-Ever Guided Night Kayaking Experience on the Suffolk Coast
You’ve likely dreamed of seeing wild seals in their natural habitat—but have you imagined meeting them under the glow of the full moon? This is your final chance.
Join NOMAD Sea Kayaking for the one and only Night Seal Safari—a guided night kayaking trip along the east coast of England, paddling approximately 6 nautical miles in darkness, under a full moon. After 21 years, this is the last—time we offer this unique adventure.
Why This Night Kayaking Safari Is Like No Other
Most people would never dream of paddling at night, let alone toward a wild seal colony. This guided experience is designed for those who want to push beyond the ordinary.
- True Darkness: No artificial lights—only distant navigation lights on the horizon. Your world is moonlight, red head torches, and glow markers.
- A Full Moon Seal Encounter: Paddle the Walton Backwaters under the full moon, guided to where seals naturally approach.
- Strict Night Vision Protocol: We preserve our night vision—no white lights—only red beams. Experience the night as it was meant to be seen.
- Expert Guidance: With 21 years of professional night kayaking experience, we are the only provider of guided night kayaking trips on the east coast of England.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE
This is more than a nighttime paddle. It is a transformation.
- Launch after sunset from Dovercourt Beach. The ordinary world fades behind.
- Paddle southeast along the Suffolk coast, flood tide guiding us toward Hamford Water.
- Enter the Walton Backwaters in darkness—guided only by the moon, red beams, and the silence of the night.
- Meet the wild seals under the full moon. Our strict policy: they approach us. You’ll have 20 minutes of quiet wonder as you float among them.
- Warm up with a brief beach stop—bring your favorite hot drink.
- Return to Dovercourt with the ebb tide, finishing a journey that only a handful will ever experience.
What Is Included
- Professionally guided night kayaking experience.
- Full safety briefing, night vision protocol, and red beam guidance.
- Sea kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, and necessary equipment.
- Guidance by experienced night kayaking professionals.
- Strict wildlife interaction policy for ethical seal encounters.
- Hot water boiled on the beach—just bring your own cup and drink.
What Makes This a unique Opportunity.
This is not a recurring event. After this 2026 season, we will not run it again.
The combination of tidal conditions, full moon timing, and weather sensitivity makes this a rare alignment.
Once these limited places are gone, this event becomes part of history.
HOW TO PREPARE
- You must use a head torch. You’ll need a head torch with a red beam (no white light) to preserve night vision.
- Pack a warm drink of your choice and a cup for our beach stop—hot water will be provided.
- Bring snacks or light food to keep your energy up.
- For clothing, check our Blog articles for detailed guidance, but in short: avoid all cotton and denim, and dress in layers suited to the evening conditions and your specific needs. But don't overdo it. There is plenty of packing space so you can carry spare clothing and items as needed.
You will be briefed on safety and seal interaction protocols before we launch and you can contact us by telephone or email with any questions at all; our Guides are experts with over two decades of experience.

Dates are very limited and we are offering only one (1) event in 2020 with twelve seats available. Please book early as demand is high for this unique, one-off event. Our kayaks are very stable with canvas seats. There is also plenty of storage space for extra-warm clothes and an evening snack and drink. This is a guided event with two Guides.
