Orwell Estuary, Suffolk
This Trip is for anyone wanting to have 'a go' at kayaking and/or have never paddled before and want an easy guided trip with no hassle whilst enjoying the renowned beauty of the Orwell estuary. The route encompasses amongst the most beautiful scenery of the Orwell with old river barges and scuppered wooden boats scattered along the shore, dense coastal forest and renowned pubs with excellent food. Woolverstone Marina is a well-provisioned modern Marina with parking, a restaurant and beautiful local walks and Pin Mill is famous for its history and the Butt and Oyster pub with good food and a welcome cold drink.
This kayaking is relaxed and laid back with a professional Guide leading the way and taking care of the guests. The route will run in either direction with a following tide so that the paddling is easier for guests and total approximately two hours depending on the group and conditions on the day. Bring along some cash for parking and the pub and/or a packed lunch, sun hat and glasses and your confirmation email will advise what to wear and bring along.
Weather Remit: A wind of a maximum of 15 knots steady blow and this includes wind gusts. The trip will be rescheduled if the wind exceeds this limit and there is further discretion on the part of the Lead Guide with all night events. Rain, snow and other conditions don’t generally affect our ability on the water. Exceptions are sometimes made and this is at the discretion of your Lead Guide and/or the Operations Director. Your Lead Guide will make a decision based on the wind speed (including wind gusts) in combination with tide strength and direction, time of day or night and size of group alongside other factors that may influence the safety and comfort of the entire group. NSK wants to get your event completed as soon as possible; please trust the judgement of your coach/Guide.

Very successful birthday present for my 14-year-old son! Neither of us are very experienced kayakers but we got so much out of our morning; we saw many beautiful sights in lovely autumnal light and our expert guides were cheerful and encouraging - very many thanks to Kurt and Becky for their enthusiastic welcome and committed professionalism. My advice to anyone considering making a booking is to read the clothing guidelines; although you will definitely get wet this advice will help you to stay warm!
Thank you Julia, it was our pleasure! You were both great company, paddled well and really relaxed into the trip.
We are so glad you both enjoyed the experience and hope you also had a lovely lunch on our return.
Once again, many happy returns Piers! We hope to see you both on the water again in the future. Becky NSK
The fantastic first-ever trip out on a sea kayak, my daughter has been on a river kayak a couple of times, but my first time on the water. Becky and Kurt were great, ensuring we were both safe and entertained during the trip. The weather was great and the sea calm, and although neither of us is very fit, it was both enjoyable and taxed our arms a little. Being on the water was amazing and Becky ensured we didn't lag too far behind whilst Kurt was forever eagle-eyed on other water users and our safety. I would highly recommend this for anyone curious about sea kayaking as well as wanting an enjoyable couple of hours on the water. Afterwards, Kurt and Becky were full of practical advice and next steps for taking our adventures further. Top tip for the day is to ensure you arrive about 15 mins early at the launch site and have money for the pub.
Thank you for such a lovely review! Good tips :) It was great to have you both along with us and we hope to see you very soon for another adventure. Becky NSK
Another great trip out on the water with Nomad. Our instructors/Guides Becky and Kurt ensured the session was fun and safe for everyone. We had a mixed group of ages and experience, with some having never kayaked, but everyone was well looked after and encouraged along the way. We were blessed with stunning weather and the Orwell was very picturesque. If you’ve never kayaked before I’d strongly recommend giving one of these sessions a go - they’re fun, well organised and a great way to spend a few hours.
Thank you Vicky.
