What You Ought to Know!

Answers to questions that most guests simply forget to ask.

On the day

What should I wear?

Clothing that dries quickly, in layers, and footwear that can get wet. Avoid cotton and denim: they stay cold when wet. Bring a warm layer and a waterproof jacket.

Your event page lists anything else you'll need.

Should I bring food and drink?

Yes. Bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty to drink. On day events we stop for lunch together.

What do I do with my car keys, phone and wallet?

Leave valuables at home where you can. We usually park in public car parks, with the normal security risks. Guides can't look after keys or bags, so bring a waterproof case for your keys.

We offer a 100% waterproof Peli case, big enough for car keys, a phone and a card. Add it when you book.

What if I'm running late?

Call us straight away on 01473 375 026. Tides don't wait, so if you arrive more than 20 minutes after the published meeting or launch time, you may not be able to take part, and there's no refund.

Can I drink alcohol before or during an event?

No. You must not take part under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that affects your judgement or balance.

On overnight events only, your Lead Guide may allow a small amount of alcohol after the day's paddling has finished.

Can I bring my dog?

Not unless we have agreed it in writing before the event.

Will I get wet?

Probably, and possibly very wet. Capsize practice is part of most courses, and this is an outdoor activity. Be ready for wind, rain, sun and cold water, and enjoy it: there's nothing quite like seeing the coast from a kayak.

Will you take photos?

We may take photos or video for training, safety and our records. We ask before using recognisable photos of you in our marketing. Tell us if you'd rather not be photographed.
