What do I need to bring with me?

Your equipment is included in the price, but it's always better to use equipment you know, so bring your own where possible. At a minimum, bring the following;

1. Hand lens (recommend 10x)
2. Smartphone
3. Outdoor clothing & sun protection
4. Gloves (for handling dead wood & brush)
5. Packed lunch & drink

Refer to your course notes for details of your specific programme.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever is comfortable for you. A long-sleeve, well-ventilated, collared shirt provides adequate protection from brambles and prickly things. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, long pants and comfy closed footwear.

Clothing with plenty of pockets for pens, a hand lens and other gear is helpful. Avoid bright colours as you'll attract every biting insect. Wear earthy colours.

What do we need to carry with us when in the field?

Although we provide all the gear you'll need, please bring your own field kit if you have it; it's always best to use equipment you know.

Carry your lunch, drink, notebook and vials in a small satchel with your sweep and aerial nets carried by hand. Your trusty hand lens is around your neck, ready for easy access.

And don't forget to have your smartphone accessible at a moment's notice for grid references, some field identification and photos.
